Word of the iconic artist’s death at the age of 83 arrived just before the end of yesterday’s edition of MBE. While we were able to share a few of our favorite cuts in real time reaction to the news, today is our day to fully process the paramount loss to the music industry writ large that accompanies Turner’s passing. Often referred to as “The Queen of Rock and Roll,” Turner — both in her early career partnership with husband Ike Turner and her subsequent solo endeavors — will be remembered as a genre-obliterating, definitional figure.
