Last week, the Orange County Water District voted to negotiate with a company that plans to build a desalination plant in Huntington Beach to buy any water it may produce. It represents a significant victory for Poseidon Water, the company that wants to build the plant and is about to open one in Carmel. Poseidon first proposed the plant 15 years ago, but never secured popular or political support to ever start it. Now, it seems to have its political supporters in line to ask the California Coastal Commission for the permit necessary to move forward. Meanwhile, opponents plan to protest the plans. Will OC get its desalination plant after all these years?
