Huntington Beach's Plastic Bag Ban Battles

Last week, three environmental groups — Californians against Waste, Orange County Coastkeeper, and a chapter of the Surfrider Foundation — sued the city of Huntington Beach, claiming their repeal of a plastic-bag ban violated the law for not doing a proper environmental impact report. The repeal itself was controversial and began this year, when a new City Council began the process of overturning it, saying their predecessors were politically motivated to do so and that it was undue government reach. The lawsuit was filed in OC Superior Court, and both sides vow to fight it until the end.
