Over the last couple of years, Orange County has become an unlikely epicenter for the West Nile virus — last year, OC had the worst outbreak in the US. In an effort to combat its spread, the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District announced last month it would spray a chemical over most of north and central OC to kill mosquitoes. But the move angered residents, who complained they weren't properly notified and feared the chemical would prove harmful, and the contracted company didn't pull the proper permits, leading to the proposal's cancellation for the rest of the year.
