In 2012, the newly elected Republican majority of the Irvine City Council vowed to audit the records of the Great Park, the long-delayed municipal project controlled mostly by the City of Irvine under the guidance of longtime politico Larry Agran. Released last month, the audit stands as a Rorschach test depending on where you stand in Irvine politics. Supporters of Agran say the audit shows nothing out of the ordinary; opponents say the audit is proof of massive malfeasance, and want the Irvine City Council to start issuing subpoenas to investigate the matter further. Meanwhile, the Great Park stands mostly empty. Who's right, who's wrong, and will the Great Park ever become anything more than Irvine's open wound?
