    What Makes Loretta Run?

    Orange County Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez's curious decision to run for a US Senate seat.

    Last week, longtime Orange County Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez announced she was running for the California Senate seat being vacated by Barbara Boxer. It was a strange move, given Sanchez has not faced a serious challenger for her office since first winning in 1996, and that her main opponent, California Attorney General Kamala Harris, already has a commanding lead. And questions of whether Sanchez is a bit too flighty to run for Senate grew louder over the weekend, when she was forced to apologize for jokingly making a mock Native American war chant. Is Sanchez's campaign already over before it's begun or is she going to confound critics again and win?
