Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas has loomed over OC courts for nearly 40 years -- first as a DA, then a municipal court judge, and since 1999 as the county's DA. But a long-festering jail-informant scandal has seriously undermined confidence in his leadership, according to a report by a committee picked by Rackauckas to investigate his office. The report led Rackauckas to invite the Department of Justice to investigate the DA's office, but many people are now calling on Rackauckas to resign in the wake of what the report called "a ruderless ship." Rackauckas voices to run for re-election in two years -- but might he step down earlier?
