Four years ago, Afghanistan’s capital city of Kabul was known as the “Kabubble.” Diplomats, aid workers and journalists from around the world flocked there for easy money, career opportunities and a decadent social scene. It was a thriving oasis in an otherwise war-torn country.

It was a thriving oasis in an otherwise war-torn country. But in the past year and a half, a sudden wave of violence against foreign civilians has killed off or scared away many expatriates. That, along with our ongoing military withdrawal from Afghanistan, has left Kabul a virtual ghost town.
