Fast Food Ban Hasn’t Reduced Obesity

A new report says that LA’s ban on new fast food restaurants in the city’s poorest neighborhoods hasn’t reduced obesity. No one thought the ordinance, which was unanimously passed by the City Council in 2008, would solve the obesity problem in South LA. But the report says it’s had no discernible effect whatsoever.

The study also found that from 2007 to 2012, the percentage of people in South LA who were obese or overweight increased from 63% to 75%, while the obesity rate in the rest of the county increased from 57% to 58%.
