But the whole debacle has made activists and residents question how the city of Los Angeles is dealing with its oil and gas production. In the past, South Los Angeles residents have complained that oil drilling has led to horrible smells and noise pollution in their neighborhood just west of USC. There are about 1,000 active oil and gas wells across the city of Los Angeles.
