LA County Will Get a Voting System Makeover

Los Angeles County will undergo a major voting system overhaul. Officials announced this week that the first stage of that overhaul is done, but that the changes won’t be ready until elections two years from now. The makeover includes a total reworking of polling places. There will eventually be hundreds of polling places sprinkled throughout the city and voters will be able to vote at any one they choose. Registered voters will automatically get a vote-by-mail ballot, just in case they want to vote early. And there will be new, user-friendly touch-screen voting machines at polling places. After you vote, the machine will spit out a paper ballot that you then submit by hand, so it’s not computer voting. Will the overhaul be a worthwhile investment?
