    The LAPD misclassified more than a thousand violent crimes as minor offenses, according to an LA Times investigation. Is the LAPD deliberately manipulating the crime stats? The LA Times has hired former L.A. deputy mayor Austin Beutner as CEO and publisher. That’s according to a new Los Angeles Times investigation. The paper found that the department rarely misclassified in the opposite direction -- in other words, from minor to serious.
