Supt. boasts best grad rate yet. But how’s LAUSD really doing?

LAUSD Superintendent Michelle King gave her first state-of-the-district address Monday. She touted the highest graduation rate ever for the district, but education advocates question whether the numbers are inflated. Meanwhile, one group is suing LAUSD over how it spent $450 million set aside for high-need students. Also, over half of Americans think raising taxes for the rich is a good idea, and historically it’s proven to be a good way to remedy inequality. So why is the task of raising taxes so difficult? Next, Green Party leaders held their convention this past weekend and nominated Jill Stein for president. Should the party be taken seriously this election?
