The “Latino Ferguson”

Last week, Antonio Zambrano-Montes was shot and killed by police in the small city of Pasco, in Washington State. A cell phone video of the shooting has outraged the local Latino community. Zambrano-Montes had been throwing rocks at cars and police. The video shows police officers firing at someone out of frame, then pans to show Zambrano-Montes walking, then running empty-handed across the street with three officers in pursuit. He finally turns and raises his hands in front of him and the police open fire. It’s been reported that this is the fourth fatal police shooting in Pasco since July. While more than half of Pasco is Hispanic, the police and city government are mostly white -- just like in Ferguson, Missouri.
