County Sheriff Alex Villanueva has repeatedly defended his decision to reinstate deputy Caren Carl Mandoyan, who was fired three years ago for alleged domestic violence and threatening another officer with whom he was in a romantic relationship. It turns out Mandoyan told her he had “influential friends who could ruin careers in the department.” He was referring to the Reapers, a secret society in the Sheriff’s Department.
