Will California Get its Quake Warning System Before the ‘Big One’ Hits?

We in California know we’re living on borrowed time and that the ‘Big One’ is coming. Any day now the state will experience a major earthquake, and yet, California does not have a statewide public early warning system, something that Japan and Mexico have had for the over a decade. Now Governor Jerry Brown wants the state to help pay for one and he’s earmarking $10 million for it in his latest budget. That’s a shift for the Governor, who previously wanted the system to be entirely paid for by private sources and the federal government.
