Marisol Hernandez grew up in Olvera Street, right near Placita Olvera, the famous Mexican marketplace near downtown Los Angeles. She absorbed her Mexican heritage there. But she was very much an American teen; she watched MTV, hung out at the mall and listened to pop music. So when her mother told her they were moving to Morelos, Mexico, she wasn't into it. But living in Mexico taught her something else. "I really appreciated everything I took for granted here in the United States," she says.
