Jose "Pepe" Carlos was brought to the US when he was 6 — his parents wanted a better life. They came from Oaxaca, Mexico and settled in Los Angeles, which has the largest population of Oaxacans in the world, including Mexico. But they came here illegally and couldn't go back to visit their family. The last time Jose heard his abuelita's voice was through the phone. "It's one of those things that's really sad of being undocumented in this country is that you can't see your relatives anymore," he says.
