Flying Model Planes

Leroy Benjamin is addicted to flying model planes. After 24 years in the hobby, he describes his apartment as an aviation museum, with planes on racks and closets full of airplane parts. Leroy comes to the Apollo XI Model Aircraft field at Lake Balboa in Van Nuys, CA as often as he can. It's the home of the San Fernando Valley Flyers, and for Leroy, that sometimes hot and usually noisy miniature airstrip is a community as well as his "fortress of solitude."
