In recent years, fewer college students have been choosing to major in the humanities. But a new program at UCSB brings students and faculty together to foster academic flexibility and a deeper understanding of how meaning is made.
In recent years, fewer college students have been choosing to major in the humanities. But a new program at UCSB brings students and faculty together to foster academic flexibility and a deeper understanding of how meaning is made.
“Learning why reading Socrates or Robert Frost is important and what that reading has to do with making knowledge in the context of a literature, philosophy, or rhetoric class can be really important,” says Linda Adler-Kassner, director of UCSB’s Engaging Humanities program.
The Engaging Humanities program is offered to transfer and first-year UC Santa Barbara students to help them develop the communication and interpersonal skills critical for success at the university and beyond.
