Documentarian Cullen Hoback maxed out his credit cards in his quest to unmask the person behind the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy theory.
His dream was that Adam McKay’s team would produce his series. But because his footage was sensitive, Hoback needed a safe way to let them sample the goods. He ended up loading his material onto secure iPads and delivering those tablets in person.
Hoback moved to an undisclosed location to finish his new HBO Max series “Q: Into the Storm.” He joins KCRW from there, talking about his three years circling the globe on a shoestring budget, and meeting people who dwell in some of the darkest corners of the internet, all in an attempt to pinpoint the identity of Q.
