Director Todd Douglas Miller on ‘Apollo 11’

Early in the new documentary ‘Apollo 11,’ we see stunning footage of astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins suiting up, just hours before they launched into space. If you’re old enough, you might remember watching the historic moon landing live on television--the 50th anniversary of that small step for man is this July.

‘Apollo 11’--the film--condenses the nine-day journey into roughly 90 intense minutes using pristine, recently discovered footage covering nearly every aspect of the mission.

Much of that film footage--some of it in glorious 70 millimeter--had been sitting in the vaults of the National Archives. It’s being seen for the first time in large format in ‘Apollo 11’, which premiered at Sundance and is in theaters now.
