Director Alberto Arvelo had no problem convincing his long-time friend and LA Philharmonic conductor Gustavo Dudamel to sign on as a musical advisor for his new movie The Liberator, which tells the story of iconic Latin American leader Simón Bolívar. Dudamel got so excited about the project, before he knew it, he found himself composing the film’s entire score. Both men tell Kim Masters they grew up in Venezuela hearing stories about Bolívar, but it wasn’t easy to bring the life of “El Libertador” to the big screen.
