Sometimes our guests have so much good stuff to say that we can’t fit it all into one show. So this week, we’re bringing you some leftovers from this summer.

First, Gina Prince-Bythewood, director of Netflix’s summer smash “The Old Guard,” shares some words of wisdom she gathered while making the film. Earlier in her career, she had directed drama films like “Love and Basketball” and “Beyond the Lights” before deciding she wanted to shift her focus. Prince-Bythewood shares her words of wisdom for women directors looking to break into making action movies.

Next, Prentice Penny, showrunner of HBO’s “Insecure,” talks about how his upbringing in Los Angeles shaped his career. “Insecure” is set in South L.A., not far from where Penny grew up, but he also spent his summers going to a summer camp where he was the only Black kid. He talks about how that helped him to fit into writers’ rooms for both Black and white shows.

Finally, Peter Medak, who joined the show earlier this summer to talk about his documentary “The Ghost of Peter Sellers,” talks about how he ignored the advice of Universal’s Sid Sheinberg when he was an aspiring director, which ended up opening the door for Steven Spielberg to direct his first film.
