- The richest man in China, Wang Jianlin, Chairman of Dalian Wanda Group, announces a massive, splashy new development project that will include sound stages for filmmaking, resort hotels, an amusement park and more. This after Wanda has bought AMC theaters in the US and invested millions of dollars in a new movie museum in LA.

- LA Mayor Eric Garcetti names Tom Sherak, former president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the Los Angeles Film Czar, whose job is to help stem runaway production out of state.
