Oscar-nominated cinematographer Caleb Deschanel looks back on a legendary career
And he gives us a glimpse of the future too! Deschanel is just back from shooting Disney’s new ‘Lion King’ in London. He’s now Oscar-nominated for his work on ‘Never Look Away.’
Cinematographer Caleb Deschanel’s first feature was the 1979 film, ‘The Black Stallion.’ Years later he worked on the 1996 movie about migrating geese, ‘Fly Away Home.’ So he’s worked with his share of real animals. But he tells us he has found himself overcome with emotion by the virtual creatures starring in his upcoming movie: Disney’s live-action ‘Lion King.’ Deschanel, a six-time Oscar nominee, is in the race this year for the German film ‘Never Look Away.’ He looks back at his memorable career as the cinematographer on ‘The Right Stuff,’ ‘The Natural,’ ‘The Passion of the Christ’--and about 2 dozen more films. And talks about the upside of shooting a movie in a foreign language you don’t know.
