Lane-Splitting Motorcyclists

Motorcyclists who split lanes – dangerous driving or better for traffic? In Southern California, we spend a lot of time in our cars, and lots of folks would say that lane splitting is dangerous and downright crazy. But defenders say the practice saves lives, and eases traffic congestion. California is the only state that does not outlaw the practice, though that could change. The California Highway Patrol and the Department of Motor Vehicles used to issue guidelines on how to split lanes safely, but recently have withdrawn them.
