It’s been a year to the day since Los Angeles Police officers shot at a pickup truck in Torrance they thought belonged to fugitive and ex-LAPD officer Christopher Dorner.

Dorner had been fired from the force, written an internet manifesto alleging a culture of discrimination and intimidation, and went on a killing spree against those he believed were behind his firing.

The pickup truck, which was the wrong make and color, was occupied by two Latino women who were delivering newspapers at the time. 71-year old Emma Hernandez was hit and her daughter Margie Carranza was injured from flying glass.

Now LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and the LA Police Commission say eight officers violated department policy on the use of deadly force when they opened fire.

Joel Rubin has been following this story for the Los Angeles Times, and he joins us for the Friday Mixer.
