Diary of a Teenage Girl, the 2002 critically acclaimed graphic novel, has been brought to life on screen by director Marielle Heller in such a way that teens and adults alike can relate to lead character Minnie as she navigates her adolescence and burgeoning sexuality. By smartly infusing comedy and vulnerability, Heller manages to avert exploitation while reflecting an unspoken narrative of adolescent female sexuality and strength.
