In 1984, Zot! took the action/adventure superhero genre and made it lighter than air. That sense of breathing and floating is a quality that writer/artist Scott McCloud has brought to all of his work, including his most recent book (and first graphic novel) The Sculptor. It's about a young artist who makes a deal with death, and gains this superpower to sculpt anything with his bare hands. The catch? He only has 200 days to do it before he dies... and he just met the love of his life. McCloud talks about the dichotomy of hope and disillusionment, which is at play in much of his work. Plus, how he deals with 'potentially corny' archetypes.
