American Airline Crash in New York

Two months and a day after September 11, another plane has crashed in New York City. Bound for the Dominican Republic with 255 people aboard, American Airlines flight 587 went down in a residential neighborhood of Queens just after takeoff from Kennedy Airport. New York airports have been shutdown, but air travel continues around the rest of the US. So far, there are no indications of any terrorist action, and the crash is being investigated as an accident. We hear more from aviation security experts and the ranking Democrat on the House Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security. Newsmaker: Eyewitness Account of Flight 587 Crash - American Airlines flight 587 crashed at 9:15 this morning, just after takeoff from Kennedy Airport. The French-built Airbus was on its way to the Dominican Republic with 246 passengers and 9 crewmembers on board. Tom Rodberg, a packaging company executive, was waiting to board another plane for Los Angeles when he looked out the window. Reporter's Notebook: Rockaway Crash Site is Home to Cops and Firefighter Victims of September 11 - Some 300 police and firefighters died at the World Trade Center September 11. A third lived in Rockaway Beach, a residential neighborhood at the tip of Long Island. In an extraordinary trick of fate, today's crash occurred in a neighborhood still mourning heavy losses at the World Trade Center. Newsday's Dennis Duggan has more.
