Bush Takes the Heat on Global Warming

President Bush has cited the energy crisis as his reason for not endorsing the Kyoto treaty on global warming. Defenders support this and other Bush environmental decisions as a prudent balance of economics and conservation, and accuse the press of engaging in hype for political gain. Has Bush forsaken the environment or just mismanaged the politics of environmentalism? Is the disagreement over means or ends? We examine the global and domestic impact of Bush's policies with environmental experts from business, government and the nonprofit world. (Matt Miller guest hosts.) Newsmaker: Campaign Finance and Tax Cut Clear Last Hurdles - With the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill surviving Senate challenges, White House strategists are planning next week's Congressional votes on President Bush's budget and tax plans. Time Magazine's Vivica Novak reviews the week ending and the key week ahead. Newsmaker (local broadcast): Milosevic Under Siege, if Not Arrest - Yugoslavia has reportedly issued an arrest warrant for former President Slobodan Milosevic. Eric Witty, of the Coalition for International Justice, calls a US demand tying economic aid to compliance with a UN war crimes tribunal more likely motivation than an altruistic commitment to justice. Reporter's Notebook: The Last Days of Spago Hollywood - The stars are crying in their soup as Spago enters the annals of Hollywood history. George Christy, of The Hollywood Reporter, likens the 19 year-old eatery to a "party you wanted to go to again and again," where owner and celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck made everyone feel at home even though only the power players got window seats.
