Cardinals Elect Joseph Ratzinger Next Pope

First there was white smoke and the bells of St. Peter's. Then "Habemus papam," the announcement by Chilean Cardinal Jorge Medina Estevez that the conclave of cardinals had named the 265th Pope. With St. Peters Square filled with people from all over the world, 78 year-old former Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger of Germany told the overflow crowd that he will call himself Benedict XVI. What will the church be like under one of the late Pope John Paul's most conservative advisors? Will Benedict's doctrinaire orthodoxy help unify Roman Catholics or keep the church divided on theology and social issues? We hear from journalists in Rome and Catholic theologians, scholars and religious historians about a man who made no appeal to moderates before the voting.
