An editorial in today's New York Times raises questions about an epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes. Almost a fifth of new cases are in young people, where it's hardest to treat. Even doctors say medicine is not the remedy. That children are starting so young bodes ill for their failures. The New England Journal of Medicine reports that three ways to treat the disease in children 10 to 17 don't work well. Pediatrician Richard Jackson, former Director of the National Center for Environmental Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and State Health Officer for California's former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, is host ofDesigning Healthy Communities, a series currently being shown on public television.
