In a rare tone of conciliation, he gave credit to his opponent. "Hillary has worked very long and very hard over a long period of time and we owe her a major debt and gratitude for her service to our country I mean that very sincerely. Now it's time for America to bind the wounds of division."
Hillary Clinton said, "I'm sorry we didn't win." Of the man she had called unfit to have his finger on America's nuclear codes unfit, she continued, "Donald Trump is going to be our next president. We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead."
In the Rose Garden, incumbent President Obama remembered that, eight years ago, George W. Bush did all that he could to help Obama take over -- despite their differences. Obama promised the same for the man who will succeed him and invited Trump to the White House for a meeting tomorrow. "We're now all rooting for his success in uniting and leading the country. The peaceful transition of power is one of the hallmarks of our democracy and over the course of the next few months we're going to show that to the rest of the world."
