    Pakistan, India and the Nuclear Factor

    Today, the capital of India's province of Kashmir, Srinagar, exploded in violence with twenty five people killed and fifty injured. In the past twelve years, tens of thousands have died in the struggle to gain independence for Kashmir or merge it with Pakistan. Today's flare-up comes at a time when old enemies, India and Pakistan, have agreed to join the coalition against Osama Bin Laden's Al Qaeda terrorist organization, with nuclear weapons in their arsenals. To explain this delicate union and potential outcomes are a physicist, a former Deputy Director of Policy Planning at the State Dep't, and South Asia experts. Newsmaker: UN Gen'l Assembly Strategizes to Defeat Terrorism - New York's Mayor Giuliani spoke on the first of five days of debate on how to focus the world-wide struggle against terrorism. Illuminating what his words imply, is James Sutterlin, a distinguished Fellow in UN Studies at Yale University; formerly director of Secretary General's office at the United Nations.
