Senate Armed Services Committee Hearings Continue

In Iraq today, Army specialist Jeremy Sivits was sentenced to one year of confinement after pleading guilty to abusing inmates at Abu Ghraib prison. He-s expected to testify against former comrades when they face courts martial. In Washington, General John Abizaid told a Senate Committee that prisoner abuse was not systemic. The head of the US Central Command testified alongside General Ricardo Sanchez, commander of troops in Iraq, and General Geoffrey Miller, who now commands Abu Ghraib. Some House members are criticizing the Senate for distracting high-level attention from the war effort itself. How high up the chain of command does responsibility lie? Making News: At Least 18 Protesters Killed in Gaza It-s been another deadly day for Palestinians in Rafah on the Gaza strip, as an explosion killed at least 25 people, including 10 children, at a crowded demonstration. There-s dispute about what caused the blast. Israeli government spokesman Ranan Gissen expressed regret over the "loss of innocent life and non-combatants-regardless of how they got killed."
