Smith & Wesson and the Politics of Gun Control

Last year, Congressional Democrats promised to "hang the gun issue around Republicans' necks on election day." Since then a much-heralded gun safety deal has backfired against Smith & Wesson. Now, although Republicans are using gun control to bash Democrats, neither Bush nor Gore is addressing the issue in their presidential campaigns. We take aim at the political impact of gun control and the NRA with a former editor of Guns & Ammo, representatives from both sides of the gun control issue, and a Candidate for the Michigan State House of Representatives. Newsmaker: After the latest Arab censure, Israel has suspended participation in the peace process. Yossi Klein Halevi, senior writer for The Jerusalem Report and Israel correspondent for The New Republic magazine, talks about attempts to consolidate Israel's government in the face of a probable Arab declaration of an independent Palestinian state. Reporter's Notebook: Computer technology increasingly runs the modern world. Levi Strauss has designed a jacket equipped with a mobile phone, an MP3 player, microphone and listening device. Jason Fields, of V1 Consulting, a technology integration and development company, discusses whether wearable technology will lead to new freedom or eliminate leisure time.
