US Warplanes are Back in Iraq

American planes have dropped food, water and medical supplies to Iraqis fleeing the ultra-fundamentalist Islamic State. There have been US air strikes against some of its forces, but the President still says, “no boots on the ground.”

Two American fighters dropped bombs on mobile artillery in Northern Iraq today to protect nearby US personnel from forces of the Islamic State. Other American planes dropped humanitarian aid for tens of thousands of religious refugees and the President has authorized further strikes if needed. He continues to promise no boots on the ground. Also, when the latest ceasefire came to an end this morning, rockets were fired into Israel from Gaza. Israel struck back, killing a 10-year old boy and wounding some other children. And, blacks, Latinos and Asians are half the audience for the movies but, almost always, the straight white man saves the day. Why doesn’t Hollywood show more of its audience heroes who look like them?
