Wealth Gap between Whites and Minorities as Wide as Ever

The wealth gap between whites, blacks and Hispanics is growing, intensified by the financial meltdown and the bursting of the housing bubble. The Pew Research Center began tracking wealth disparity by race in 1984 when white families had 12 times as much as black families. Now, white households are worth 20 times more than those of black Americans and 18 times more than those of Hispanics. Timothy Smeeding, Professor at the University of Wisconsin and Director of the Institute on Poverty, has more on the stunning statistics and what it might take to equalize access to prosperity.
