To the Point

Will Constitutional Vote Unite Iraqis or Drive Them Apart?

The interim government says 6,000 polling stations have been established so that 12 million Iraqis will be able to vote on a new constitution. But the constitution itself was still being amended today to accommodate Sunni Muslim leaders, who say the document favors Kurds and Shiite Muslims at Sunni expense. As deadly violence continues, there's concern that the voting itself could increase the very differences the constitution is supposed to resolve. We get perspective on whether Saturday's election will bring Iraq unity through democracy or take it a step closer to civil war from journalists in the region, experts on Iraq and the Middle East, and veteran US and Iraqi diplomats.
