Tom Schnabel explores classic and forceful African music from the 1960s and 1970s. Much of this music was never issued on cd or came out of Africa or production centers like Paris and Brussells. Some music, like Orchestra Mazembe of Kenya, was only released as 45 rpm 7" singles. This is classic African music, driving rhythms, pre-synth and drum machines, often featuring strange-sounding guitars from Eastern bloc countries like East Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Poland during the Soviet era.
