Armenian Festival Ensemble

Cafe LA will feature a live performance by the Los Angeles-based Armenian Festival Ensemble, featuring members of the same group that will open the Hallelujah concert Sunday August 15, l999. The Hallelujah concert will also feature Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, as well as the Campbell Bros featuring Katie Jackson and the legendary Mighty Clouds of Joy. The radio performance will feature an ensemble of 5 duduks, playing what the Armenian-American novelist William Saroyan called "the sound of prayer". The group will also feature one of the best vocalists in the area, and be augmented by the dhol, or Armenian drum.
