Are Schools Replacing Parents?

The hundreds of millions California spends yearly to prevent campus violence proved useless in preventing yesterday's shooting at Santana High School in Santee. Early assessment and intervention for violent kids, a clear unified policy, strong site leadership, and good communication with parents are imperative. But how far can adults go to stop school violence? Must the front lines be school staff? What about parents? We ask California's newly appointed Secretary for Education, a PTA spokeswoman, and experts in adolescent psychiatry and school violence prevention. (Kyle McKinnon guest hosts.) Newsmaker: Inspector General Says LAPD Chief Misled Investigators - LAPD chief Bernard Parks calls a confidential report by the police commission's Inspector General "blatantly false." The report examines the chief's questioning the motives of the former DA. Raquel de la Rocha, president of the LA Police Commission, addresses this confidential personnel matter.
