    California Energy Crisis Revisited

    Even though stage-two emergencies and rolling blackouts may seem like ancient history, California-s energy crisis was only a year ago. The price of energy soared and the state was forced to shell out billions of dollars to assure a future supply. Critics who insisted that the shortage was produced artificially by those gaming the deregulated system were dismissed as conspiracy buffs. Now, as newly revealed documents substantiate their claims, even Bush administration regulators are asking if California-s electrical shortage was the product of market manipulation by Enron and other traders. We hear the unsettling story and speak with major players from the California Power Authority and Western Power Trading Forum. Newsmaker: Chief Bernard Parks- Bid for LA City Council Bernard Parks has officially declared his candidacy for the Los Angeles City Council. The former chief of the Los Angeles Police Department is seeking the 8th district seat now occupied by Mark Ridley-Thomas, who is leaving because of term limits. Parks shares his thoughts on public safety, secession, and his aspirations to move from law enforcement to law enactment.
