California Recall Election Scheduled for October 7
Californians are about to make political history. Last night, Secretary of State Kevin Shelly certified 1.4 million signatures on petitions to recall Governor Gray Davis. Barring some unexpected event or unlikely court intervention, Californians will go to the polls on October 7. That-s the date set this morning by Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante for the recall of Governor Gray Davis. In case the recall succeeds, there also will be a list of candidates for Davis- job. It-s the first time this has ever happened in the biggest state in the Union, and it-s beginning in the midst of the worst budget crisis California has ever seen. We get an update on budget negotiations, hear from both sides of the recall campaign and talk to political pros about Republicans, Democrats, Independents and movie stars.
