Californians Cope with a Bare-Bones Budget
Governor Brown said that cuts to this year's state budget would create hardships, and his prediction is already beginning to come true. Next week, Chancellor Charles Reed will ask the Cal State University Board of Trustees to raise tuition by 12 percent, starting with the fall semester.

Next week, Chancellor Charles Reed will ask the Cal State University Board of Trustees to raise tuition by 12 percent, starting with the fall semester. That's in addition to a 10 percent increase already scheduled. Higher education will be hit the hardest by this year's cuts, but the aged, poor and disabled will suffer the most.
