    Which Way, L.A.?

    California's New Consumer Privacy Law

In this age of computers, banks, lenders and insurance companies are compiling vast dossiers of financial information and selling them to one another. But a California State Senator is determined to curtail the selling of what she calls "financial DNA" with a tough new bill that closes loopholes in federal legislation and increases protection for consumer privacy. Governor Davis says he'll sign it. We speak with the author of the bill, the Governor's office and interested business on one of this year's most heavily lobbied proposals in Sacramento. Newsmaker: Fox Wants Immigration Agreement This Year - Mexico's President Vicente Fox opened his state visit today by calling for an immediate solution to the politically contentious issue of illegal Mexican migrant laborers in the US. Ed Chen, of the Los Angeles Times, reflects on Fox's formidable challenge which he'll present again tomorrow when he addresses a joint session of Congress.
