A New Media Roundtable has declared our region Digital Coast. And the mayor is in Asia touting Los Angeles as the Smart City. Is this promotion overdue recognition of L.A.'s hi-tech might, or is it just hype? Do we have the technical and financial support to beat out Silicon Valley, Silicon Alley and Route 128? And what is New Media, anyway?
Jim Jonassen: Chairman of the Larkin Group (a professional services firm for new media) and founder of both the Los Angeles New Media Roundtable and of LAWNMOWER, a New Media economic development company Rocky Del Gadillo: Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, City of Los Angeles David Goldberg: Chief Executive Officer of Launch (maker of Launch CD Rom and My Launch website, both about the music industry) Jonathon Weber: Editor of The Industry Standard, a new magazine about the internet business to be launched in April; he was technology editor for The LA Times and wrote "The Cutting Edge" for the Times' business section.Ann Marsh: Staff writer for Forbes Magazine at the West Coast Bureau who has written several articles about new media companies Brett Wickens: Vice President and Creative Director Of New Media at Frankfurt Balkind Partners (a film promotion company); he taught Interactive Graphics at Cal Arts and he is the Design Technology Editor for "Eye: The International Review of Graphic Design" Kevin Wall: Founder and CEO of BoxTop IXL; he is a member of New Media Roundtable and will go to Hong Kong and Taiwan as part of the Mayor's Asia trade trip.
