A do or die vote on extending to China Permanent Normal Trade Relations is due next week in a bitterly divided Congress. The vote will have a far- reaching impact, perhaps even for next year's Los Angeles mayoral election. How could the vote affect the U.S. labor force? What about human rights in communist China? Could China's entry into the World Trade Organization help bring about increased capitalism, and perhaps increased democracy in that country?
